Malcolm B. Chancey, Jr. Elementary

Owner: Jefferson County Public Schools

General Contractor:  Morel Comstruction Company

Cost $7,300,000

This is a new 72,000 SF Elementary School for 650 students located on a 9 acre site in eastern Jefferson County, Kentucky.  The building was located on the site to maximize natural elements as well as provide space for a variety of play areas which include a softball field as well as two separate playgrounds - one for preschool students.

The school was designed with public use in mind by compartmentalizing the building.  This allows parts of the building to remain open while the rest of the building is secured. The main entrances are monitored visually and electronically from the main office, controlling visitor access during school hours.  Loud areas, such as the gymnasium and music rooms, are separated from the main teaching areas to provide fewer distractions, and classroom size was increased to allow ample storage space for both teachers and students.
